How to deal with Champions Destiny 2 D2

Welcome to the “How to Deal with Champions Beginner Guide in Destiny 2 D2″. The guide explains how to defeat champions in Destiny 2 and what you need to watch out for if you fight them.

To make the PvE activities in Destiny 2 D2 a bit more challenging, Bungie has decided to add Champions in challenging PvE activities. There are three different types of champions: Overload, Barrier and Unstoppable. Each champion type has its own mechanics. And i will show you the best ways to deal with them.

Overload Champions in Destiny 2 D2

The Overload Champions in Destiny 2 D2 heal up constantly until you overload them with the help of a suitable weapon.

Overload Champions have 3 phases:

Phase 1 starts as soon as the Overload Champion sees you. He will start shooting right away and heals up constantly. Do not waste ammunition in this phase.

Phase 1
Overload Champion Taken Destiny 2 D2

Phase 2 starts as soon as you overload the Champion with a suitable weapon. Now the champion stops for a short time and has no life regeneration. In the short phase in which he is stunned is the best time to do real damage and in the best case not to get into phase 3 at all.

Phase 2
Overload Champion Taken Destiny 2 D2

Phase 3 starts as soon as the overload champion regains consciousness and starts shooting again. There are a few important things to keep in mind here. As long as the Champions are glowing properly, you can’t stun them again. However, you can still overload them and stop their life regeneration. But sometimes this is not so easy because the champion will continuously shoot at you. As soon as the glow stops, it starts again at Phase 1.

Best suitable Weapons against Overload Champions

One of the best and easiest ways to deal with Overload Champions in Destiny 2 D2 is to have one person constantly fire Divinity at the Champion that overloads and stuns the Champion. At the same time a blue sphere is created around the champion. The other people from the fireteam can now shoot at this blue sphere and all hits count as a critical hit. This is especially good for precision weapons like snipers or linear fusion rifles with which hitting crit spots is otherwise quite tedious.

Secondly, there is the possibility to unlock mods in your Artifact and equip them on your Gauntlet armor. For example, you can equip the Mod Overload Bow on your Gauntlets to overload and stun Overload Champions with any bow. With the Overloaded bow, for example, you have to pull the arrow up until the arrowhead turns red.

These Mods change every Season and always bring a breath of fresh air into the Loadouts.

Unstoppable Champions

The Unstoppable Champions in Destiny 2 D2 take very less Damage and charge you until you stun them with the help of a suitable weapon.

Unstoppable Champions have 3 phases:

Phase 1 starts as soon as the Unstoppable Champion sees you. He will start shooting right away and charge you constantly. Do not waste ammunition in this phase.

Phase 1
Unstoppable Champion Destiny 2 D2

Phase 2 starts as soon as you stun the Champion with a suitable weapon. Now the champion stops for a short time and take increased damage. In the short phase in which he is stunned is the best time to do real damage and in the best case not to get into phase 3 at all.

Phase 2
Unstoppable Champion Stunned Destiny 2 D2

Phase 3 starts as soon as the Unstop Champion regains consciousness and starts charging again. There are a few important things to keep in mind here. As long as the Champions are glowing properly, you can’t stun them again. Now you have to wait until the glow stops to stun again then the whole thing starts again at phase 1.

Unstoppable Champion Immun Destiny 2 D2

Best Weapons against Unstoppable Champions

Although there are Exotic Weapons with built-in Unstoppable Perks, I don’t recommend using them. Leviathan’s Breath just feels too clunky and you don’t have enough reserves. In general, I never recommend covering a champion type with only a heavy weapon because you can run out of ammo quickly and end up looking pretty stupid. Devils Ruin is just a sidearm and not very convincing in neutral gameplay. Especially for endgame activities in which the champions are mostly, a sidearm is not particularly suitable because of the lack of range.

As already mentioned there is the possibility to unlock mods in your Artifact and equip them on your Gauntlet armor. For example, you can equip the Mod Unstoppable Pulse Rifle on your Gauntlets to stun Unstoppable Champions with any Pulse Rifle. To stun successfully with the Unstoppable Weapons you have to aim the weapon and then wait about half a second. You will then hear a noise and the screen will flash briefly.

These Mods change every Season and always bring a breath of fresh air into the Loadouts.

Barrier Champions

The Barrier Champions in Destiny 2 D2 are very tricky. At the beginning they behave normally like normal enemies, but suddenly they make an impenetrable barricade and heal themselves up. You can find out how to prevent this here.

Barrier Champions have 3 phases:

Phase 1 starts as soon as the Barrier Champion sees you. He will immediately start shooting at you incessantly. The best way is to start shooting at the Champion with normal primary ammunition until he makes the shield and moves to Phase 2.

Phase 1
Barrier Champion Destiny 2 D2

Phase 2 starts as soon as the Champion has made his Shield. Now you have to be quick and switch to your weapon with piercing ammo (see below). While you are shooting at the champion with piercing ammunition, he can’t heal himself. As soon as you have shot away the whole shield, phase 3 begins.

Phase 2
Barrier Champion Shielded Destiny 2 D2

In Phase 3 the Barrier Champion takes more Damage for a short time and needs some time to make his shield again. Here it is best to take out the big Guns and finish the champion. Note that if you don’t quite manage to break the shield, the champion will make a shield again after a few seconds.

Phase 3
Barrier Champion Stunned Destiny 2 D2

Best Weapons against Barrier Champions

To break the Shields of Barrier Champions there are several very good variants. One is the exotic linear fusion rifle Arbalest. Even in the toughest activities, Arbalest reliably breaks the barrier shields with 2 shots. Apart from that, Arbalest also does super good general damage and is suitable for taking out distant snipers. Arbalest is also my personal favorite when it comes to Barrier Champions in Destiny 2 D2.

You can also use the exotic Handcannon Erianas Vow which is also good. Especially as a Hunter in combination with lucky pants, this thing packs a punch.

Besides these two range options, you can also take the exotic Sword Lament. With the charged combo you can easily saw through the Barrier shield. Besides, every blow heals you up which is a great combination. But here again the problem with the lack of distance to the Enemy in super hard Activities, the enemies kill you mostly before you come with Sword even close.
